Yamazaki’s 55-Year Old Single Malt Whisky

Suntory, Japan’s largest whiskey producer, has just produced a new Yamazaki 55-year-old single malt whisky for $60,000 per bottle. Suntory founder Shinjiro Torii, known as the “Father of Japanese Whiskey,” initially produced single malt whisky in 1960, aged primarily in mizunara wood barrels. Suntory’s then-master blender Keizo Saji distilled the second and third single malts in 1961 and 1964, respectively, and matured them in American white oak.
