If you are familiar with electric bikes, you are aware than Vanmoof is at the top of the list when it comes to electric bike manufacturers. Its latest product the S5 electric bike is a sleek machine with a fully enclosed drivetrain and independent smart shifting that provides the rider with an unparalleled riding experience.
The new S5 features a straight frame design that appears to be designed to give the appearance of a classic bicycle but nonetheless the styling is bold, sporty, and aggressive that will satisfy the palate of e-bike enthusiasts.
The S5 is powered by a new 250W 5V Gen 5 motor that provides 68 N-m of torque which is nine points higher than its predecessor model the S3. The motor is paired with a 487 Wh battery that can power the bike up to 93 miles on econ mode and 37 miles using full power.
The smart features of the bike include a torque sensor that automatically monitors how you ride and engages the electronic gear shifter at the precise times ensuring that your ride up hills and downslopes is an effortless and pleasurable experience.
Moreover, a turbo boost option allows the rider to engage the motor’s full torque at the push of the button for maximum speeds of up to 20 mph.
The electronics are no less appealing on the S5. A halo ring interface located on the handlebar displays the speed, battery level, and power assist level clearly to the rider.
If you prefer to use your smartphone while riding, you can link to the app which will display the same information to the rider including ride duration, ride distance and ride history.
For security, the S5 retains the same security features as previous versions including keyless locking tech known as Kick Lock, theft defense, manual disarm, location tracking by Bluetooth and GPS and automatic rider recognition technology.
Aesthetic wise, the design is very clean with all wiring placed inside the frame which also adds to the bike aerodynamic characteristics.
With a full charging time of 6.5 hours and an optional click-on battery that can extend the range of the bike by 87 miles, the Vanmoof S5 is worth every penny of its meager price tag of only $2,998.
