These Edible Cotton Seeds are Non-Toxic and Rich in Protein!
Edible cotton seeds are a newly developed variety of cotton seeds that is not toxic to humans like other varieties and packed with protein. Cotton seeds contain a toxic organic compound known as gossypol which is to toxic to human red blood cells and if consumed causes anemia and even death. Researchers have now genetically engineered a variety called TAM66274 which lacks the toxic compound gossypol and is therefore safe for human consumption. It’s hoped that this safe variety of cotton seeds could provide a source of cheap and plentiful protein to people around the world.
