The Orient Express Makes the Leap to the High Seas With the New SilenSeas Luxury Sailing Yacht
Many of us have never heard of the Orient Express which was a long-distance luxury passenger train service created in 1883 and operated until 2009. The train traversed the length of continental Europe all the way to Istanbul Turkey.
One hundred and forty years since its inception, the Orient Express legend is being resurrected in the form of the world’s largest sailing ship named the Orient Express Silenseas.
This extraordinary sailing yacht is the product of an ambitious undertaking and partnership between the world leader in hospitality Accor and Chantiers de l’Atlantique, a global leader in the shipbuilding industry.
At 220-meters in length, this spectacular vessel when it takes to the seas in 2026 will be the largest sailing yacht ever built. It will feature three SolidSail rigs, a revolutionary 1,500 square-meter unit wind propulsion system that will be combined with a hybrid propulsion system running on liquefied natural gas.
The interior will be decked out with 54 suites measuring on average of 70 square-meters. The rest of the interior will have an enormous 1,415 square-meter Presidential Suite with 530 square-meter of private terrace, two swimming pools including a lap pool, two restaurants and a speakeasy bar.
