One of the World’s Oldest Monastery on Siena Hills in Tuscany Italy is up For Sale
With deep pockets you can own a piece of European history by purchasing the world’s oldest monastery on Siena Hills in Tuscany Italy. Located just outside of the beautiful town of Siena, the Benedictine Abbey has a long history that dates back to the year 730, when the Lombard of Warnifredo, a royal steward stationed in Siena, founded it and endowed it with surrounding lands and possessions.
Perched high on a hill, the property offers 360-degree panoramic views of the surrounding city of Siena. The property boasts an impressive internal surface area of 6,200 sqm with 9,600 sqm of external space with rolling hills and beautiful gardens. Throughout its history from the time, it was donated to the Cassinesi Benedictines by Warnifredo in 731, the monastery has endured periods of war and the destruction that comes with it.
Until 1786, the monastery was the seat of the Benedictine monks. After the Napoleonic suppression in 1812, the monastery passed to the Griccioli counts, who owned it until 1932. After 1932, the property would later become a retirement home managed by the Vincentian Sisters. Today the monastery is a sprawling complex managed by an Italian foundation that uses the premise for social and cultural purposes.
The monastery features two cloisters, the main cloister built in Renaissance style has a central garden and a well, while the second cloister has hexagonal brick pillars. The entire structure is constructed of mixed tuff and brick masonry. Most of the rooms inside the chapel are vaulted and frescoed with a small chapel frescoed in the vault with medallions and grotesques, the work of a Sienese artist of the late 16th century.
This extraordinary property is a rare monastery of major historical significance that is currently on sale and offers a unique opportunity for a new owner to own a piece of European history in the beloved and historically rich Italian city of the Siena.
