The 2024 Lexus GX Returns with a Boxy Profile and Dedicated Off-Road Focus
The Lexus GX has been around for more than a decade and within that time its design has remained relatively unchanged. Like most new vehicles, the Luxury arm of Toyota is completely redesigning the Lexus GX for 2024 with a boxier looking profile and increased focus on off-road capabilities. The new 2024 GX is still a body-on-frame 4×4 with a low-range gearbox, a feature that has become antiquated in modern SUV’s that are primarily unibody designs.
Under the hood, the GX is powered by a twin-turbocharged 3.4-liter V6 producing 349 horsepower and 479 lb-ft of torque. Like most Toyota and Lexus SUV engines, this powerplant is a gas guzzler with a combined fuel economy of only 17 mph. If you plan on towing the maximum allowable load of 8,000 pounds expect fuel economy to plummet even further. Luckily, Lexus plans to introduce a hybrid model sometime in the next few years that will have much better fuel economy.
Interior wise, the new GX seats seven passengers and comes with optional third row seating. The front seats are heated and ventilated and a large 14-inch infotainment display graces the dashboard with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto included free of charge. Other interior features include wireless charging, second-row captain seats, a third row and a 21-speaker sound system.
The whole package rides on 33-inch tires and the chassis features electronic locking rear differential for off-road driving and skid plate. The new 2024 GX will be offered in six trims and a litany of options for customers to customize the truck to their liking.
