Rolls Royce Unveils Concept for Fully Autonomous Cargo Ships

“Autonomous shipping is the future of the maritime industry” according to the president of Rolls Royce Mikael Makinen.

In keeping with those words, the luxury automaker has revealed concept designs for an autonomous cargo ship that could be operated by remote control from anywhere in the world.

Operators would monitor each autonomous cargo vessel by remote link, carry out diagnostics remotely and deploy drones for visual inspection if needed.

According to Rolls Royce this emerging technology promises to completely revolutionize the maritime shipping industry and could replace manned vessels in the near future.
