Project Asensio Space Elevator Concept Aims to Replace Space Rockets

Research into space elevators is nothing new, the concept of using an elevator to access low earth orbit has been around for several decades. Project Asensio is the latest space elevator concept that is aiming to make this technology a reality and replace fossil fuel rockets as the primary means of accessing earth orbit.

The project explores the challenging and exciting prospect of combining a sustainable ocean-based space elevator with a multi-use spaceport. Astronauts would board a specialized elevator tethered to a cable extending to geostationary orbit and ride them up into space.

If it becomes a reality, it will save enormous amounts of money on fuel and rockets currently being employed to place satellites and astronauts into orbit. The project aims to provide a more easily accessible and sustainable gateway to space exploration and tourism.
