Porsche’s Mission X Hypercar EV Concept Aims to Reclaim the Title of Fastest Road-Legal EV from Tesla’s Model S Plaid
Porsche is entering the competition for the fastest road-legal EV around the famous German Nürburgring racetrack with the new Mission X Hypercar EV concept. The Mission X will compete with the Tesla Model S Plaid that currently holds the record. The Tesla Model S Plaid recently defeated the previous record holder the Porsche Taycan Turbo S. Porsche is aiming to reclaim the title with the new Mission X Hypercar.
The Mission X design is more akin to a racecar with Le Mans-style doors that open upward towards the front. At 14.7 feet long, 6 feet wide and 4 feet wide, the Mission X will have a wheelbase of about 30 feet which is like the wheelbase of the Porsche Carrera GT. The new Mission X will ride around on 20-inch wheels in the front and 21-inch wheels in the rear.
Mission X was designed with performance in mind with transparent aero blades in the rear axle that improves cooling of the brakes. The carbon fiber body design is both lightweight and aerodynamic with a glass bubble dome that surrounds the driver and passenger.
The lightweight materials enable a power-to-weight ratio of one horsepower for every 2.2 lbs. Under the hood, the power train is a 900V system that can charge twice as fast as the Taycan Turbo S. Interior wise, the seats are equipped with a six-point harness like racing seats. An open top steering wheel provides excellent close-up views of the curved dashboard and forward views.
The Mission X is a concept car that is built for competition but currently there are no plans to put it into serial production. However, if the company does decide to do so we can expect a limited edition run of probably under 100 vehicles made for the consumption of the ultra-wealthy.
