Elvis Presley’s 1962 Lockheed 1329 JetStar Private Jet is Up for Auction
The late Elvis Presley’s 1962 Lockheed 1329 JetStar Jet is up for auction. This legendary piece of rock ‘n’ roll history will be dusted off in the New Mexico’s desert and put on auction to become the prized possession of someone who will refurbish it to its past glory.
The Jet was purchased by the late Elvis Presley on December 22, 1976, for $840,000 which is equivalent to about $4.4 million in today’s dollars. It had a range of 2,500 miles and max speed of 565 mph and was the choice of celebrities and CEOs of the time.
The Jet was used to transport Presley and his crew across the country and the world on tours and personal travel. The Lockheed 1329 is one of several Jets owned by Presley including the Convair 880 that was purchased and named after Presley’s daughter Lisa Marie.
The JetStar was owned by Presley for little more than a year before being sold. It then became the property of a Saudi company before being mothballed at the Roswell International Air Center in New Mexico where it has been in storage.
After decades of being stored under the New Mexico’s sun, the exterior and its red velvet seats are still in good condition, however, the engines and instruments have all been removed. The aircraft will go on auction at the Mecum’s 2023 event in Kissimmee in January.
