Snap Pixy is the Pocket-Sized Camera Drone That Will Connect You in Real-Time to Snapchat
When you want a camera drone that sticks closer than a buddy, the Snap Pixy pocket-sized camera drone will become your best friend. The Snap Pixy drone is the product of Snapchat’s parent company Snap and is part of the social media company’s drive to get into the consumer hardware product market.
Snap Pixy is the latest in a line of products from social media companies experimenting with consumer hardware products. These products will allow social media platform users to download images and videos from consumer hardware products directly onto the social media platform.
Last year Snap unveiled its AR Glasses that lets creators overlay digital images on to their view of the real world. Snap labels itself not as a social media company but as a camera company and so its not out of its league to be building selfie camera drones.
Pixy camera drone was unveiled at the fourth annual partner summit. The drone is easy to use, simply press a button and select one of several flight paths which include hover, orbit, reveal, favorite and follow. With follow selected, the Pixy drone will follow you around recording your every move as you go hiking, biking, jogging or whatever.
Pixy can be programmed to either take videos or photos in any mode and will remain in the air capturing images before returning to the palm of your hands. The drone has no controllers and no complex setup. It simply flies a pre-programmed path and returns to you.
The Snap Pixy drone goes on sale Thursday on Pixy.com with a starting price of $230. Not bad for a camera drone. Pre-ordered drones will start delivery by the end of May according to Snap.
