Stratosfera is an Alien Looking Sphere That Can Travel Through the Air, On Land and On Water
Designed by Lazzarini Studios, this alien looking sphere is a unique concept that is a blueprint for the future of mobility. This revolutionary concept known as the Stratosfera can travel on land, on water and fly through the air. If that’s not enough, their are variants of the machine that can also travel under the water.
What is this contraption that Lazzarini has conceived? It’s a 5.4 foot diameter ultra-light carbon fiber sphere that can comfortably seat two passengers. It features two modes, watercraft mode and flight mode. In watercraft mode, it can travel above the water similar to a hydrofoil and is powered by two 150 hp electric jet engines that can propel it through the water at 30 knots.
The sphere itself acts like a gyroscope with the engine batteries placed in the low-end of the extendable foil underwater. Along with a self-balancing system, it helps the sphere to remain stable and provides a comfortable ride on the water for the occupants. Similar to a hydrofoil, the pod rises above the water at increasing speeds and returns gently to the surface of the water as the speed is decreased.
Flight mode will see the Stratosfera deploy a set of four propellers similar to a quadcopter that can only be described as something out of a science-fiction movie. It can take off and land vertically and fly through the air at speed of up to 155 mph.
Machines such as Stratosfera are only possible today because of quantum leaps in technology. From computing systems to materials to propulsion systems and many more advances has made these machines possible. That said, there is always room for improvement and the Stratosfera project will become an open-source project by mid 2022. This will allow for a massive infusion of knowledge and funds that will contribute to the project’s development and upgrades. Don’t look for this machine being available to the general public anytime soon.
