The 8th Continent Ocean Cleaning Concept

We are all aware of the many studies that the world’s oceans are dying from pollution and over fishing. This Octopus inspired 8th continent ocean cleaning concept by Lenka Petráková is a design concept of a floating station that cleans up the oceans while it floats around the world. It is meant to restore the marine environment by collecting plastic debris and recycling it into useful material. In addition, it desalinizes ocean water to be used in greenhouse agriculture. The project has so far won the 2020 Grand Prix Award for Architecture and Innovation of the Sea from the Jacques Rougerie Foundation, a French institute that awards visionary projects.
