The INEOS Quartermaster 4×4 Pickup Truck Returns to the Days When Trucks Were Distinct from Cars and SUV’s
Remember the days when trucks were trucks and cars were cars? Those clear distinctions present since the infant days of the automotive industry have vanished over the last few decades. Thankfully, INEOS Automotive is resurrecting the true definition of a 4×4 pickup truck with the new INEOS Quartermaster.
Just a few decades ago all 4×4 trucks manufactured by the major automotive brands sat on a separate chassis with solid front and rear axles. Today, most 4×4 have independent front ends with a solid rear axle and in some cases independent front and rear suspension.
The concept of unibody took shape and replaced the separate chassis that was common to 4×4 trucks. Sure, this design change led to better road handling and cheaper costs of production, but it reduced the off-road abilities of trucks in many ways.
INEOS is aiming to bring back the old-school 4×4 pickup truck and SUV, not only in what lies beneath the body but also in exterior styling. The INEOS Quartermaster is the pickup version of this revolutionary truck, and the INEOS Grenadier is the SUV version both featuring retro exterior styling and old-school chassis.
The Quartermaster pickup truck has a longer wheelbase than the SUV version which offers more stable towing capabilities. It retains a solid coil-spring front and rear axle with front and rear lockers for better off-road comfort and similar off-road features as the SUV version. Under the hood is a 3.0-liter V6 BMW Gasoline or diesel engine generating 281 hp and 330 lb-ft of torque.
Interior wise, the front row seating is similar to the SUV front seating with the second-row seating being much tighter to accommodate the large truck bed. The INEOS Quartermaster is a modern truck with an old-school approach. It’s a true 4×4 truck that returns to the old days when trucks were distinct from anything else on the road. It’s the perfect memory refreshment for those who miss the days of the Camel Trophy off-road expeditions.
