If You Can Stomach its Exorbitant Bill You Can Dine in This Space Balloon at 82,000 Feet
Over the last few decades, there has been a dramatic increase in exotic dining experiences around the world. Whether it’s the Belgian project “Dinner in the Sky”, companies have been pushing the boundaries of exotic dining by offering patrons not just excellent cuisine, but a dining experience that simply cannot be forgotten.
Enter French Startup Zephalto, a little-known company that plans to offer a six-hour trip in a space balloon to 82,000 feet or the edge of space where patrons will have an exotic dining experience with truly out of this world views of the earth and the sun.
Dining at the edge of space is not a new concept, several companies have explored the possibility of creating such an experience. However, Zephalto is pursuing an ambitious concept to lift people to the edge of space using high-altitude balloons normally used for military and weather applications.
The concept is fast becoming a reality thanks to advances in material technology and a new groundbreaking pressurized capsule that will house the inhabitants. The 215 sq-ft capsule will be able to hold up to six passengers and two pilots. The space balloon will operate using helium which is common for high-altitude balloons and will take six-hours to ascend to its predetermined altitude of 82,000 feet or 25km.
At 82,000 feet in the air, the darkness of space will be visible along with the curvature of the earth and minus zero-gravity. Whether patrons are having an outer space party or celebrating an outer space birthday, their feet will be firmly planted on the floor of the capsule.
At a cost of $131,716 USD for a ticket that includes the flight, and two gourmet meals, we can see that this is an experience that very few earthlings will be able to enjoy.
The company is currently taking reservations and is planning 60 flights per year with the first flight taking to the skies in 2025.
